Race: Royal Korvian

(from Kyara's profile) Most Korvian people are not all that different from humans, several millennia of isolation and living in a magic saturated society has altered their physiology. There is a particular dominance of dark hair and wide bright eyes. Rarely is anyone shorter than five feet six inches and women tend to be very slim. All Korvians, even those without magic, have the average life span of a normal wizard. Because Korvis is an isolated island there are certain hereditary magic talents, or predispositions, commonly found in the Korvian people, talents such as natural magicks (elemental/free magicks), and heightened senses relating to both the physical and magical aspects and empathy.

There is something particular about the Royal bloodlines. There are sixteen royal houses, each with various particular branches and talents. Many years ago, before Korvis hid herself from the world, a dying race of ‘dragons’ that felt a particular connection to the Korvians. Instead of being lost forever, they gave themselves to the Korvians, tying themselves to the most powerful and talented of all those on Korvis. These became the Royal Houses.

For hundreds of years the both the females and males born into these families enjoyed great powers, ones that can hardly be compared to any other people. They could take on forms somewhat akin to their old friends and always the mark of them, beautiful colors and patterns like wings across their backs, remained with them. The patterns come in great variety. As the years passed, the abilities faded, and the males, always less (inexplicably) fortunate lost most all but the marks, though those too are valued in their own way. No one knows why some are born with the marks and why some are not.

Any female who is born with the marks is taken to be trained in hopes she might prove to have some of those traditional abilities. It is a sign of great power if a Princess can enact that partial transformation that bears claws, scales and glorious wings that gleam like transparent nacre or glow like many panes of stained glass. It seems this physical transformation is one of the very basic. Most other powers, and in fact even what they were, have been lost. It is feared that even these are fading as each successive generation bears less of those who have such talents.

The ability is one of many secrets that Korvians prefer to keep to themselves.

Pets: a fennec named Amon

Background: Lumael Talas is the last of the direct line of a once powerful family that was nearly wiped out some six hundred years ago. A precious child, she was too young to be much use in a fight against their enemies and already several of her older siblings had fallen to assassination and challenge combat. The Balath lands and houses were under siege. To protect Lumael, the last female child of the current Matriarch, they hid her away during the fighting, putting her in and enchanted sleep and sealing her in the form of a statue. Once the fighting was over they would wake her.

Unfortunately the fighting went badly for Balath. The entirety of the main branch of the family were killed, every person at Balath Palace in the capital was slaughtered. Only distant relations, weak lines of the Balath family survive, leaving none alive who knew the location of Lumael. Because of the horror that occured at the Balath Palace it was abandoned by the family and was instead maintained at times by the Empire.

Personality: Lumael was raised in the usual manner of the Royal Houses of Korvis. She is very determined, dangerously intelligent and ruthless. Lumael believes that she is right and justified in everything she does because she was taught to think as such. Besides her mother, there was no other who deserved greater honor, those daughters of rival houses were only barely her equal, as no one who believed herself less would ever gain power.

However, Lumael was only 11 years old when she lost her family and sense of being in the face of waking up in a new century. Her mother had been the center of her life and she had grown up in a powerful family that within a generation would be on the throne. Lumael is very unsure of herself, but has been taught never to show this. In fact she tries very hard to show now emotion at all, but her education was incomplete and a child cannot be expected to not be frightened and lonely after going through what she did.

Likes: magic, reading, swordplay (and other weapons), heights, bitter and spicy foods, tea

Dislikes: being alone

Academic Outlook: Determined. Has been taught to learn all she can, for this knowledge will help her gain advantage in the future. Being solvent can only get you so far, being intelligent and ruthless can gain you real power.

Quirks: Very capable at wand-less magic, very quick (both physically and magically), has been learning magic since she was very young, can cast with swords, fans and other focusing objects. She has very keen physical senses and is somewhat empathic.

Counter Quirks: Imperious and demanding. Does not understand British Wizard or Muggle society. Doesn't understand English. Doesn't play nice with others.

Appearance: Lumael has brown hair, it is very long as it was rarely cut and is long enough to sit on. It has a slight wave to it, but the weight of it keeps it straight for most of it's length and it is usually plaited besides. Her eyes are a hazel brown, an unusual color for a Korvian but a common trait for a Balath. Her skin is very fair and almost translucent, making her appear more delicate than she is. She has an adorable little nose, and a pretty mouth with a pouting lower lip. She has an oval face and still has a bit of baby fat to her. There is great promise in her appearance that she will be very beautiful indeed and is pretty already.

Lumael is marked with the 'wings' of the Royal Houses of Korvis on her back. Like some impossible tattoo, it is made of brightly colored pinks, yellows, reds and blues in a strange stained glass effect that appears like the wings of a dragon. They spread over her upper arms, back and down to her knees. Lumael's markings are more vibrant than those born in this time period.
